Electric Motorcycles and MBG Kitchen Incentives Under Review, Budget Cuts Possible: Prasetyo Hadi

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has confirmed the government will carry out a thorough restructuring of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, including evaluating the planned use of electric motorcycles previously intended to support its operations.

Speaking after a meeting on improving MBG services and remote Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) at the Coordinating Ministry for Food in Jakarta on Thursday, 11 June 2026, Prasetyo said the review extends beyond motorcycles to cover all aspects of implementation, from beneficiary targets and incentives for SPPG units to the programme’s budget, which has been set at Rp268 trillion for 2026.

“We will look at everything. Not just the motorcycle issue, but all other aspects as well,” Prasetyo stated when asked about the fate of the electric motorcycles previously planned to support MBG operations.

His remarks signal that the procurement and utilisation of electric motorcycles within the MBG ecosystem are not exempt from the government’s evaluation. The electric motorcycle plan had been associated with distribution support for the programme under the previous leadership of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) head, Dadan Hindayana.

Prasetyo stressed that no component is excluded from the evaluation process. The government aims to ensure that every policy implemented delivers maximum benefit to the targeted communities.

In addition to the electric motorcycles, the government is also open to reviewing the incentive scheme for SPPG units, or MBG kitchens, which has drawn public attention. When asked about the possibility of evaluating the Rp6 million daily incentive for SPPG units, Prasetyo confirmed that this aspect is also part of the ongoing restructuring. He indicated that the budget could be reduced if deemed necessary to improve efficiency and targeting.
