Electric Motorcycle Purchase Subsidy to Take Effect September 2026

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has said the electric motorcycle subsidy incentive policy could take effect as early as September 2026.

“It should be running by September. The electric motorcycle subsidy will be in effect,” Purbaya said when met at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8).

However, the Finance Ministry Regulation (PMK) that would serve as the legal basis for the policy has not yet been issued. Purbaya said he would first meet with Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita to coordinate. “He hasn’t spoken to me yet. I’ll go and see him tomorrow,” he said.

It was previously reported that Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the Rp5 million electric motorcycle incentive was still awaiting the issuance of the PMK from the Finance Ministry.

Agus stressed that the Industry Ministry, as the technical ministry, is ready to run the programme. However, implementation can only proceed once the Finance Ministry regulation is issued. “We are waiting for the PMK. Waiting for the PMK,” Agus said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday (17/8).

According to Agus, the issuance of the regulation rests entirely with the Finance Ministry. Nevertheless, the Industry Ministry has prepared the technical aspects of the programme’s implementation. “We are ready. The Industry Ministry, as the technical ministry, is ready. We are just waiting for the PMK. Once the PMK is completed, we will adjust accordingly,” he explained.

Agus added that the list of electric motorcycle brands that will receive the incentive is still being discussed jointly by the Industry Ministry, Danantara Indonesia, and the Finance Ministry.
