A mini electric car caught fire on Jalan Raya Takmung, just east of Goa Jepang, Klungkung Regency, Bali, this morning. The fire is believed to have been triggered by sparks resulting from improperly fitted replacement vehicle components.

I Gde Erwan Supriantana, Head of the Fire and Rescue Section at the Klungkung Civil Service Police Unit and Fire Department, said his office received a report about the fire at around 7.55 am local time. Erwan said residents had initially attempted to contain the flames using emergency measures, namely sand to isolate the blaze.

“The fire occurred because replacement components were not fitted properly or correctly, causing sparks to originate from the motor engine components,” Erwan told detikBali on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

Erwan said the sparks quickly spread and charred part of the electric car’s interior. According to him, the fire was fully extinguished about 15 minutes later and on-site handling was completed at 8.10 am local time.

“The fire was extinguished through rapid handling using sand so that the flames could be brought under control,” Erwan added.

Erwan confirmed there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. Meanwhile, the total material losses resulting from the incident are still being assessed.
