Electric Car Catches Fire in Tebet

An electric car caught fire on Jalan MT Haryono in the Tebet area of South Jakarta. Firefighters were still working to extinguish the vehicle, according to Sjukri Bahanan, head of operations at the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency, on Wednesday (14 October 2026.

Residents reported the fire at 15:44 local time. Fire crews attended the scene on Jalan Letjen MT Haryono, RT 11/RW 05, Tebet Barat, in Tebet district.

Eight fire engines and 32 firefighters were deployed. Flames were still burning at the scene as crews continued spraying water.

The firefighting operation began at 15:56. By 16:03, the fire was almost completely extinguished, and firefighters were continuing to spray water to ensure all burning material was fully put out.

“The fire status is yellow [cooling operations],” Sjukri said.

The cause and circumstances of the electric car fire are not yet known. Video circulating online showed black smoke billowing into the air.
