Electric BMW Mobbed After Hitting Motorcycle in West Jakarta, Police Confirm Case Ends Amicably

A traffic accident case involving an electric BMW and a motorcycle in the South Meruya area, Kembangan, West Jakarta, has finally been settled amicably. Police confirmed that both parties pursued deliberation and agreed to resolve the matter in a familial manner.

The incident, which became a public spotlight, occurred on Monday, 22 June 2026. Video footage of the event went viral on social media, showing a black BMW being chased by a number of motorcyclists before ultimately becoming the target of a mob attack.

However, after being handled by the police, the matter did not proceed to legal process and ended through mediation between the two parties.

AKP Joko Siswanto, Head of the Traffic Accident Unit at the West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Division, explained that the police brought together the family of the BMW driver and the victim’s party to find the best resolution. According to him, the family of the motorcyclist involved in the accident was represented by the victim’s child during the mediation process.

“In essence, both parties, the BMW side and the ojol family or the motorcyclist represented by his child, were immediately assisted by us for mediation and agreed to settle it in a familial manner,” Joko told reporters on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

Joko emphasised that the mediation process went well and produced an agreement accepted by both parties. With this agreement, the matter that had drawn public attention was declared resolved. However, the police did not disclose the details of the agreement reached between the two parties. According to Joko, investigators only facilitated the mediation space without interfering in the substance of the agreement made.

“The problem has been resolved amicably. As for what the agreement entails, we certainly cannot enter that domain,” he said.

On the same occasion, Joko also confirmed that the accident was purely a traffic mishap and no element of intent was found on the part of the BMW driver. He assessed that there was no motive or malicious intent from the driver to harm the victim. Therefore, the deliberation approach was deemed the appropriate step to resolve the matter.
