Electric Bicycle Left Charging Unattended Causes House Fire in Depok
A house in Sukmajaya, Depok, West Java, was destroyed by fire on Monday. The blaze is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit while an electric bicycle was being charged and left unattended by the owner.
Tessy Haryati, Head of Operational Control at the Depok Fire and Rescue Service, stated that the fire was reported when the house was empty, around 2 p.m. local time. According to the homeowner, the fire likely originated from the electric bicycle which was left charging.
Haryati confirmed that an explosion occurred during the incident, suspected to be from the bicycle’s battery. The fire, which engulfed the property belonging to a resident named Ali, was successfully extinguished after four fire engines and 17 personnel were deployed to the scene.
The fire service managed to save a pet dog, a 2026 Toyota Avanza, and important documents from the property.
