Electoral Bill Working Committee to Take Input During DPR Recess, All Issues to Be Discussed
The Working Committee (Panja) on the Electoral Bill (RUU Pemilu) has confirmed that it will continue to receive input from various parties during the parliamentary recess. A number of issues are set to be discussed in the drafting of the bill.
“On the 29th of last month we formed the Working Committee on the Electoral Bill and we have already set its schedule. God willing, we will begin work soon, even during the recess. If necessary, we have also arranged a schedule during this recess to receive input from various parties,” said Bahtra at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (8 October 2026).
Bahtra said input from various parties is needed so that deliberations on the bill do not focus solely on drafting rules, but also aim to improve the quality of elections and democracy.
“We have also listed the parties we will invite to seek their input, opinions and views on the Electoral Bill, so that our future elections are not only held, but also of better quality, and our democracy meets the hopes of all the people we love,” he explained.
Bahtra said the schedule for the bill’s deliberations would be made public. Commission II of the DPR will also share developments in the discussions openly through social media.
According to him, public participation is an important part of drafting the Electoral Bill. Bahtra noted that the committee has also prepared an agenda of closed and public hearings (RDP and RDPU) that will go ahead even while the DPR is in recess.
“Even though it is recess, we are not restricted by the recess. During this recess we have already invited the parties we intend to involve in the RDP and RDPU,” he said.
Bahtra said the discussions on the Electoral Bill would not be limited to the issues that have received attention so far. He stressed that all important issues would be addressed.
“Of course, we will announce the official details later, but the most important point is that it is not limited to those issues. All important issues will be discussed, so that we can ask various parties and the public for their input, and then resolve the issues that matter to the public and incorporate them into the Electoral Bill,” he said.
