Election Victory: Peter Magyar Pushes for New Hungarian Government
Budapest (ANTARA) - Peter Magyar, Chairman of the Tisza Party that emerged victorious in Hungary’s parliamentary elections, has urged President Tamas Sulyok to promptly appoint him to form a new government and then resign.
According to the latest data from Hungary’s National Election Office, after counting 95.63 per cent of the votes, the opposition Tisza Party won the parliamentary election with 137 out of 199 seats, achieving a constitutional majority.
“I ask the president to immediately instruct me, as the leader of the winning party list, to form the government and then resign,” Magyar stated in front of his supporters in Budapest.
He also called for the resignation of the Chief Justice, Attorney General, President of the Constitutional Court, and heads of other state institutions.
Earlier, Hungary’s National Election Office reported that the Tisza Party secured 137 out of 199 seats in parliament after 81.49 per cent of the votes had been processed.
At the same time, the Fidesz Party led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban obtained 55 seats, and the Our Homeland Movement Party received seven seats.
Viktor Orban has served as Hungary’s Prime Minister since 2010 consecutively to the present, with a leadership period of around 16 years without interruption. He previously also led Hungary during the 1998-2002 period.
