Election of new president
Election of new president
From Merdeka
A general election will soon be held and Indonesia will soon have its new president, who will be fully entrusted to lead the state. The presidential cabinet system prevailing until today has furnished a great opportunity to the mandate holder of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) to exercise his power as broadly as he wishes, especially because he comes from the political party winning the election. All his wishes and policies will always be accepted and supported by the majority of the MPR members, because basically those sitting in the House of People's Representatives (DPR)/MPR are fellow travelers. Of course this tendency will only be fertile soil for practices of corruption, collusion and nepotism. Once a political party emerges victorious from a general election, it will always be a winner because the president, who comes from this party, will see to it that his organization will again be a winner in the next general election.
Because of the above, it is necessary to have a different arrangement for the election of a president. One of the possible arrangements is to include the presidential election in the general election. This inclusion will only make the cost of organizing a general election rise a little. If the president- elect is not from the political party winning the general election, DPR/MPR will certainly monitor the attitudes and policies of the president at a greater intensity and frequency. In this way, members of DPR/MPR will truly carry out their obligations and exercise their rights as true representatives of the people.
