Election of Majelis Masyayikh Members Seen as Moment to Strengthen Pesantren Quality
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA) has stated that the election of members for the Majelis Masyayikh is not merely a routine agenda, but rather a significant momentum for strengthening the quality assurance system of pesantren education in accordance with the law.
“The Majelis Masypendik has a vital role as an independent and autonomous institution tasked with formulating the quality assurance system for pesantren education,” said the Chairman of AHWA, KH. Miftah Faqih, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Currently, the registration process for candidates for the Majelis Masyayikh for the 2026–2031 term remains open from 1 to 10 June 2026. This stage serves as the initial step in the election process for members of an institution that plays a strategic role in maintaining and developing the quality of pesantren education in Indonesia.
Through this process, Miftah noted, pesantren and pesantren associations are encouraged to propose the best figures deemed to possess the capacity and integrity required to serve as members of the Majelis Masyayikh. “Therefore, the selection process must be conducted objectively, transparently, accountably, and in accordance with applicable regulations,” he added.
According to him, the Majelis Masyayikh has long been a key pillar in maintaining the quality of pesantren education, while ensuring that the unique traditions of pesantren scholarship are preserved and able to evolve alongside the dynamics of the national education system.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of AHWA, KH. Achmad Roziqi, explained that all stages of the selection process refer to the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education Number 3972 of 2026 regarding the Technical Guidelines for the Election of Majelis Masyayikh Members for the 2026–2031 Term.
“These technical guidelines serve as the foundation to ensure the entire selection process runs effectively, efficiently, and openly, while upholding the principles of legality, impartiality, and legal certainty,” said Achmad Roziqi.
The selection stages will proceed incrementally, beginning with registration, document verification, announcement of administrative selection results, essay collection, public testing, interviews, and finally, the appointment of the elected Majelis Masyayikh members.
Based on the established schedule, the members of the Majelis Masyayikh for the 2026–2031 term are scheduled to be inaugurated on 3–4 November 2026.
Through this selection process, AHWA hopes to recruit pesantren figures who possess scholarly capacity, experience, integrity, and a strong commitment to strengthening the quality assurance system of pesantren education, while simultaneously safeguarding the scholarly heritage of pesantren as an important part of national education.
