Jakarta, Kompas.com - Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives Commission II, Zulfikar Arse Sadikin, revealed that there is no draft or academic manuscript for the revision of the General Elections Law (Election Law Bill), leading to the cancellation of the internal Commission II meeting on the matter. He stated that discussions on the Election Law Bill are currently at an initial stage of material enrichment, with no official documents yet available for deliberation in the internal forum. “We see that it’s not yet time for an internal meeting because what has been prepared is just a kind of paper,” Zulfikar said when met at the House of Representatives building on Friday (17/4/2026). “We are still enriching first, roughly, if we want to make changes to the election law, what materials and contents need to be changed.” He stressed that these changes also need to be aligned with various external factors, including the political situation and the government’s position. “To what extent we adjust it, then we also give room for opinions from many stakeholders. That’s the extent for now,” Zulfikar said. “Later, when the working committee is underway, what the Legislation Body works on will increasingly lead to the academic manuscript and bill draft, then we will bring it to the internal Commission II meeting,” he added. Nevertheless, Zulfikar assured that Commission II wants the preparation of the Election Law Bill to be completed soon and enter the discussion stage this year. “Clearly, there is a desire for the preparation to be finished soon as an initiative bill and for discussions to be conducted promptly,” Zulfikar said. This Golkar Party politician also alluded to the experience in 2019, when the preparation of the academic manuscript and bill was nearly complete but not continued due to factors beyond the House’s control. According to him, that experience serves as a consideration to make the current preparation process run more smoothly. “We have the 2019 experience, it was almost becoming a bill draft, but there are external factors that we need to pay attention to so that in the future it can go smoothly,” he said.
