Election for people, not parties
Election for people, not parties
From Media Indonesia
The President in our country will later be directly elected,
but this is reportedly to be conducted in (two) phases. In this
way, the emergence of axes of political parties and "money
politics" may recur. Also, a rift within the House of
Representatives (DPR) is imminent.
In order to prevent such developments, the presidential
election should be held only once and the one winning majority of
votes should become president. If the top two candidates have an
equal number of votes, then the DPR should elect them by a vote.
In this manner, the people will be satisfied and true democracy
is guaranteed.
Similarly, the election of House members should start from
majority votes downward until the required number of legislators
is met. The ones elected by the people, therefore, become DPR
members regardless of the parties to which they belong. Rather
than parties, it is the individuals that people want to represent
them. It is thus an election by the people and for the people
instead of by certain parties and for certain parties.
