Election Bill Working Group to Hold Meetings During Recess, Target Draft Completion by December

The Working Group (Panja) for the Election Bill of Commission II of the DPR RI has held a meeting to arrange the discussion schedule. The Panja for the Election Bill will begin active discussions on 1 November during the parliamentary recess period.

“We will utilise the recess period starting from 1 November. So, we will have a recess first, and then on 1 November, during the recess, we will begin the Panja meetings,” said the Chairman of the Election Bill Panja, Rifqinizamy, at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (5/10/2026).

The subsequent recess in December will also be used to discuss the Election Bill. Rifqinizamy targets that by the end of December or early January 2027, the academic paper and the draft of the Election Bill will be completed.

“Therefore, we will use these two recess periods to the maximum extent to ensure that by late December or early January 2027, the academic paper and the draft of the Election Bill are finished, and we will submit it as part of the DPR’s initiative proposal,” he stated.

Rifqinizamy mentioned that crucial points to be discussed include the electoral system, the design of elections, and the enforcement of election laws. He also noted that the group will address issues such as the intervention of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in future elections.

Furthermore, there will be meetings with non-parliamentary political parties as well as the Constitutional Court (MK). The Election Bill Panja will invite or visit these entities to conduct discussions.

“That will be included in the schedule. We will also visit non-parliamentary political parties, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, and so on,” he added.

Previously, Commission II of the DPR RI officially formed the Working Group for the Election Bill, consisting of 23 members.
