Electing legislators

It goes without saying that all members of society have placed
their hopes on the newly elected legislators and members of the
People's Consultative Assembly (DPR/MPR) who were installed on
Oct. 1, 1997. I believe that these new people's representatives
will be able to improve the negative image of their predecessors
who were known to be sterile, and incapable of comprehensively
solving problems that arose in society.

I hope that the new legislators will be more sensitive to the
people's aspirations and show greater enthusiasm in listening to
their voices. A strong DPR is a healthy DPR, which absorbs the
aspirations of the people, and gives the executive the right
input. In serving society the DPR members should always
remember their built-in rights namely budget, initiative and the
right to formally question official actions, policy and conduct.
