Eldest hotel caught fire

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Fire razed the eldest and historical Aceh hotel in Banda Aceh on Wednesday.

The fire gutted the 100-year-old building located next to the popular Baiturrahman mosque in the down town of Banda Aceh at 2:30 p.m. Police were still investigating the source of fire, Antara reported.

There were no details on estimate of losses due to the fire.

The hotel, which stopped its operation in 1997, would be renovated as it is now managed by the Accor Asia Pacific. It would be upgraded into a starred hotel under the name of Novotel Aceh.
