Elderly Woman in Bogor Self-Isolates for Over a Decade Due to Depression, Authorities Intervene
A 65-year-old woman in Cibinong, Bogor, West Java, isolated herself after reportedly suffering from depression for over a decade. A joint task force from the Bogor Regency Government carried out a persuasion effort to get the woman to leave her home. “Family members and neighbours were even driven away when they tried to interact and help,” the Bogor Regency Government stated via its Instagram account @bogorsiaga112, quoted on Saturday (20/6/2026). Local residents said the condition of the house had worsened. The porch ceiling was reported to have collapsed, while a wasp nest that posed a safety risk was also found inside. “Worried about the grandmother’s safety, residents contacted the sub-district office and 112 to conduct an evacuation,” the statement revealed. The evacuation took place on Friday (19/6). Persuasion measures were carried out by officers. The woman had scratches and an infection on her leg, as well as bruises on her hand. “After the 112 team managed to enter, escorted by RT/RW officials, the condition inside the house was seen to be extremely life-threatening. The fire brigade also helped secure the collapsed porch and the very dangerous wasp nest,” it explained. The woman was eventually persuaded and agreed to leave the house. She then received medical treatment and was taken to her family’s home until her own house is repaired. “The cycle of isolation was broken thanks to the concern of neighbours and residents,” the statement concluded.
