Medan Metropolitan Police (Polrestabes Medan) have detained an elderly toy vendor identified by the initials L (65), who is suspected of sexually abusing a total of 28 female primary school pupils in Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra.

“As of now, the number stands at 28. The perpetrator is an elderly toy and snack vendor who operated in front of a nearby primary school,” said Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Polrestabes Medan, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Bayu Putro Wijayanto, during a press conference on Friday (20 June 2026).

Bayu stated that all victims identified so far are female, aged approximately 9 to 11 years old. The suspect allegedly abused the victims by kissing them on the lips, sitting them on his lap, and groping their thighs and intimate areas.

“There are no male victims based on the investigation conducted so far. We have carried out examinations of both the suspect and the schoolgirls,” he said.

The local hamlet head, Zulfan, said he was initially contacted by the headteacher of the school where the victims were enrolled, who informed him of the alleged abuse on Thursday morning (5 February). Upon receiving the information, Zulfan immediately went to the school.

Zulfan noted that there are three primary schools situated within the same area at the location. Upon arriving, he found a large gathering of teachers and residents already assembled. The case came to light after one of the victims disclosed the alleged abuse she had experienced.
