Elderly Receive Free Transjakarta Cards: Keen to Visit Airport and See Planes
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The programme to create Free Public Transport Service Cards (KLG) in the Car Free Day (CFD) area at Bundaran HI, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (19/4/2026), was enthusiastically welcomed by elderly residents (lansia).
Registration, open from 06:00 to 10:00 WIB in front of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, was crowded with visitors, most of whom were elderly (lansia).
One elderly person who was beaming after receiving the free card was Zainudin (61), a resident of Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. He admitted that he rarely uses public transport for travel.
However, he now feels interested in using the KLG as a means for outings and filling his retirement time.
“We are retired now. So we have plenty of time, it’s good for going out and sightseeing,” Zainudin told Kompas.com at the location on Sunday.
One route he is most eager to try is the trip to Soekarno-Hatta Airport using Transjakarta.
“Besides those in Jakarta, we also want to try the one to the airport. Just for a refreshing walk while watching planes. Coincidentally, I’m learning Arabic, and our activities are just that, three times a week, so when there’s free time, it’s used for outings,” he said.
Not only that, he also mentioned that he is very keen to try travelling by MRT, as it is also included in the free transport list.
According to him, the variety of transport modes that can be used for free greatly helps him to travel comfortably in Jakarta.
Zainudin recounted that he had actually known about the KLG information for a long time because he regularly visits the CFD.
“At that time, I thought it wouldn’t be immediate. So I was lazy. Then I asked my friend, it turns out if you have your ID card, it’s done on the same day. Oh, it was true, earlier I didn’t wait long, it was done right away,” he said.
He admitted that he didn’t have to wait in line for too long, and the process was fully assisted by the officers.
“It’s easy, and we were helped by the officers through the DKI service app, we don’t understand it. At most, just verifying which ID, whose name, and it’s done. Alhamdulillah, we got it,” he added.
