Elderly People's Stories of Registering for Free TransJakarta Cards: Back and Forth to the Hospital Without Draining Money

Budi Muliyati (79) recounted her reasons for registering for the KLG TransJakarta. She said the card she previously owned had been lost. “We usually like to go out every Sunday, and it just so happened that I made a card in 2018, but it got lost. After it was lost, I came here, asked around if it was possible. But we reported it to the local police station first, and also reported it here. I made a new one on 5 April, but it got lost again along with my wallet. So I made another one at the HI police post here. It’s easy,” said Muliyawati when met at the location on Sunday (3/5/2026). Budi admitted that she is a regular user of public transport to go to the hospital three times a week. She then utilises the card so that transport costs to the hospital are not wasteful. “Often, sir, when we want to go to the hospital. We go back and forth three times a week. Jaklingko, yes. So we take advantage of this. If we used paid transport, it would drain our money,” she said. Besides Muliyawati, an elderly couple, Sutarya (66) and Sumiyati (64), admitted they left for Bundaran HI around 05:00 WIB from their home in Ciracas, East Jakarta. They immediately registered to obtain the KLG TransJakarta. “I got information about making the TransJakarta card. The information was at Bundaran HI. Then my wife and I came here at 5 a.m. from home. Now we’ve arrived here and I registered, took a number, processed it. That’s it,” said Sutarya. Sutarya explained that this was his first time registering for KLG TransJakarta. He intends to use the KLG TransJakarta to tour around Jakarta. “It just so happens this is my first time making a TransJakarta card. First, I’m already elderly, so it’s free. Second, maybe sometime I want to go around Jakarta,” he said. Sutarya mentioned that the process of getting the free TransJakarta card is quick. He needed only one hour to get his card. “Pretty good, very fast. I’ve probably been here almost an hour and I’m about to get the card,” he added.
