Elderly need training center

SEMARANG, Central Java: Semarang needs to develop training
centers designed to help the growing elderly population in the
province.

The head of the Central Java Family Planning office, Soetedjo
Yuwono, said here over the weekend that these centers would be
aimed, among other things, at helping pensioning civil servants
adjust to retirement.

As quoted by Antara, Soetedjo said this could be done by
teaching senior citizens vocational skills.

An estimated 210,000 people, or about 7 percent of the total
population in Central Java, are categorized as elderly.(mds)
