Elderly Man Nearly Kidnapped in PIK, Police Identify Two Suspects

An elderly man, identified by the initials GH (70), was nearly kidnapped by a group of individuals while exercising in the morning in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The head of the criminal investigation unit at the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police, AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea, explained that the attempted kidnapping occurred in May 2026 at around 6:55 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. The incident was captured by several CCTV cameras in the vicinity.

Sampson stated that the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police received a report regarding the alleged attempted kidnapping and/or assault in the Pantai Indah Kapuk area. Based on initial investigations and CCTV footage, the suspected perpetrators used a car and followed the victim as he was walking near his residence. Shortly afterwards, a man exited the vehicle and approached the victim directly.

He explained that the perpetrator tried to force the victim into the car. However, the victim resisted and managed to escape the kidnapping attempt. Sampson noted that the victim and the perpetrator struggled and fell onto the road. The victim continued to fight back and shouted for help, which is believed to have panicked the perpetrator. The perpetrator ultimately halted the attempt and fled the scene before succeeding in taking the victim.

Sampson further stated that the victim is a private sector employee with no known disputes with any other party. The victim also claimed not to recognise the perpetrator who tried to kidnap him. Investigators are currently mapping the movements of the vehicle used in the incident by tracking various CCTV points around the location. “The motive is still being investigated and the team is tracing CCTV points leading to the crime scene. Hopefully, we can identify the perpetrators soon,” he said.

He added that initial investigations suggest more than two people were involved in the attempted kidnapping. “We are using investigative methods to gather evidence by analysing CCTV and other recordings,” he stated. Nevertheless, Sampson confirmed that two suspects have been identified and are currently being pursued. “Two suspected perpetrators have been identified,” he clarified.

Following the attempted kidnapping, Sampson said the victim suffered several injuries and experienced some trauma. “Just abrasions from falling during the struggle. There is some trauma, but not severe,” he said. Sampson added that a total of six witnesses and the victim have been questioned so far. “The victim and witnesses have all been examined. Six witnesses have been examined,” he stated.
