A 67-year-old man with the initials IKW was found dead, having hanged himself from a citrus tree in Pikat Village, Dawan District, Klungkung, Bali. The victim is suspected to have taken his own life due to the burden of debt amounting to tens of millions of rupiah.

The incident occurred on Saturday (13/6/2026). His body was first discovered by a garden owner with the initials IWW (64) at around 2:30 p.m. local time. The victim was known to work as a casual labourer.

“The witness was on his way to his rice field and cattle shed. At the scene, the witness saw the victim already hanging from a citrus tree,” said Police First Inspector Dewa Alit on Sunday (14/6/2026) evening.

The shocked witness immediately reported the incident to local village officials, who then relayed the report to the Dawan Police. Police personnel and a medical team from the Dawan II Community Health Centre arrived at the location to process the scene and conduct an intensive examination.

“In the victim’s pocket, a credit arrears letter from the Pikat Village LPD was found with a value of Rp 68,895,000,” Alit revealed.

Meanwhile, the medical examination found no signs of violence or blunt force trauma on the victim’s body. A ligature mark from a yellow scarf measuring 26 centimetres was found on the neck, along with a small, almost dried-up laceration on the chin.
