Elderly Man Found Dead in Well in Denpasar After Suspected Fall

A combined search and rescue team evacuated a resident who had fallen into a well in Jalan Antasura, Gang Teratai No. 5, Peguyangan Village, North Denpasar District, Denpasar City, Bali on Thursday afternoon (12 March 2026).

The incident was reported at 12:10 pm (Bali time) by a resident named Kojek to the Denpasar City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). The victim was identified as I Made Wirya, 65 years old.

According to information, the victim was in poor health with one leg previously amputated. The family reported the incident after failing to locate him at home.

In response to the report, at 12:30 pm Bali time, 7 personnel from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office were deployed to the scene equipped with mountaineering equipment, breathing apparatus sets, medical equipment and other supporting search and rescue equipment.

They arrived at the location at 1:13 pm and immediately coordinated with combined search and rescue elements to conduct search and evacuation operations. Shortly thereafter, the body of I Made Wirya was evacuated from the well.

“The body was evacuated this afternoon at approximately 1:35 pm Bali time thanks to the work of the combined search and rescue team and good coordination. It was then transported to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital using an ambulance from the Denpasar City BPBD,” explained I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office.

The combined search and rescue elements involved in the operation included the Rescue Team from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (7 personnel), Bali Police Mobile Brigade (15 personnel), West Denpasar Police Sector (3 personnel), Denpasar City Fire Service (5 personnel), the North Denpasar Sub-district Head, Peguyangan Village officials, the victim’s family and local residents.
