Elderly Man Dies After Falling into 50-Metre Ravine in Pangsan, Badung
An elderly man named I Made Arse died after falling into a ravine while clearing grass on a cliff in Banjar Sekarmuti, Pangsan Village, Petang District, Badung, Bali. Arse slipped and fell to a depth of around 50 metres.
“The victim fell into the ravine while clearing grass on the cliff area around the scene,” said I Komang Guna, head of the Badung Fire and Rescue team, with the permission of the Head of the Badung Fire and Rescue Department, on Sunday (6/9/2026).
Guna said the Badung Fire and Rescue Service dispatched Rescue Unit 03 from the main post to the scene after receiving a report at around 11.18 WITA. According to him, the team arrived at the scene within 15 minutes and immediately prepared an evacuation plan.
“Officers departed from the post at 11.20 WITA and arrived at the location on Jalan Dedari at 11.35 WITA. We immediately prepared evacuation equipment as soon as we reached the cliff,” said Guna.
The process of recovering the victim was quite difficult due to the steep and very deep ravine terrain. Joint officers strapped the 75-year-old victim’s body onto a stretcher and pulled him manually using ropes up the cliff.
“The evacuation was carried out by pulling the stretcher from the bottom of the ravine. This evacuation took about one hour,” Guna added.
“This evacuation involved joint officers from the Petang District fire brigade, village officials, police, and a medical team,” he concluded.
The victim’s life could not be saved because he had fallen into a deep ravine. Officers evacuated the victim to a community health centre before he was eventually handed over to his family.
