Elderly man dies after being struck by car in Dlingo, Bantul

An elderly pedestrian died after being struck by a car on Jalan Terong-Mangunan, specifically Kebokuning, Terong, Dlingo, Bantul. The victim, identified as S (64), sustained severe head injuries. Bantul Police Public Relations Head, First Inspector Rita Hidayanto, said the accident began when a car with registration AB 8571 WK was travelling from north to south along Jalan Terong-Mangunan at 05:30 WIB. The driver, a man identified as SR (46), a resident of Muntuk, Dlingo. ‘Arriving at the scene, there was a pedestrian from north to south along the roadside,’ she told reporters on Friday (22/5/2026). Rita disclosed the pedestrian was a man identified as S (64), a resident of Terong, Dlingo. Following this, the driver could not avoid the pedestrian on the roadside. ‘Because he could not avoid [the pedestrian], the car struck the pedestrian until he fell onto the road,’ she said. As a result of the collision, the bumper of the car sustained scratches. SR did not sustain any injuries. ‘The pedestrian died at the scene after suffering severe head injuries,’ she added. Reflecting on the incident, Rita urged motor vehicle drivers to exercise greater caution and to take into account road conditions when driving on the highway, to prevent such unwanted incidents.
