Elderly man arrested for stealing bag containing cash and gold at hospital in Nusa Penida
An elderly man, with the initials IWK, was arrested by the Nusa Penida Police Sector in Klungkung on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The 65-year-old man was apprehended at his home in Desa Klumpu, Kecamatan Nusa Penida, Klungkung. IWK was arrested for stealing a bag belonging to a patient’s family at Gema Shanti Hospital in Nusa Penida, Klungkung. The bag, belonging to I Gede Agus Indra, contained Rp 6 million in cash, documents, and jewellery weighing 80 grams. The incident began when the victim was waiting for his wife who was being treated at Gema Shanti Hospital; Agus Indra had placed the bag in a cabinet in one of the wards. “The bag was left behind when his wife moved to the VIP room. When he checked again the next morning, it was no longer in its place,” Kesuma Jaya said on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
Agus Indra reported the loss to Nusa Penida Police because the amount of loss reached Rp 198 million. After receiving the report, police conducted investigations by taking statements from several witnesses and going to the scene.
The investigation was hampered temporarily because the CCTV at the location experienced disruptions. However, thanks to the perseverance of all personnel involved, IWK was eventually arrested at his home.
After interrogation, IWK admitted to his actions. The perpetrator is also a custodian for a patient in the same room as Agus Indra.
“The offender has been secured to be held accountable for his actions,” Kesuma Jaya said.
