Elderly Join NTT Governor at National Elderly Day 2026 Event
Thousands of elderly people sang together at the climax of the National Elderly Day (HLUN) 2026 celebrations at the Governor’s Residence Square in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) on Saturday, 30 May 2026. The atmosphere grew livelier when NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena took to the stage to perform ‘Kamu Nggak Sendirian’, a song popularised by the Tipe-X band. The energetic music immediately enlivened the atmosphere, prompting the elderly to sing, clap, and dance along.
In addition to the entertainment stage, the Ministry of Social Affairs provided several services at the event, including free health checks, physiotherapy, blood donation, social assistance verification, and audiometry tests for hearing assessment.
One elderly attendee, Honimus Tupen, 69, from Sikumana, Maulafa, Kupang City, expressed his delight at participating in the HLUN 2026 event. ‘I am very happy (to attend this event); it would be great if it were held annually. Free medical treatment and assistive devices at this age are extremely helpful,’ he stated in a written statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
Similarly, Sony expressed his satisfaction with the free health check-up services for the elderly. He underwent cholesterol, blood sugar, and uric acid tests and received free medication afterwards. ‘This event is highly beneficial for us elderly. It brings joy to meet fellow seniors again and makes us feel young,’ he added.
Moreover, the Director General of Social Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Supomo, joined the stage. He enjoyed the festivities and interacted with participants who had been part of the HLUN 2026 activities since morning.
NTT Vice Governor Johni Asadoma also showcased his singing talent, performing the NTT regional song ‘Veronika’, which was met with collective singing from attendees. The atmosphere grew warmer as Johni continued with the popular NTT song ‘Dapa Usir’, made famous by Deddy Bartel.
These entertainment moments marked a memorable climax to HLUN 2026 for thousands of elderly attendees following the prize distribution and talent performances. Many participants stood up to dance along, with laughter, smiles, and singing echoing throughout the event area.
