An elderly couple, Rahman Nur (64) and Siti Hajar (62), were discovered dead in a pool of blood at their residence in Seketeng Ward, Sumbawa District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, in the early hours of Sunday, 23 May 2026. Police suspect the elderly victims were murdered by a friend of their grandson.

“That is correct, the incident occurred in the early morning,” stated AKP Dwi Kurniawan Kusuma Putra, Head of Criminal Investigation at Sumbawa Police Resort, when confirmed by detikBali on Sunday.

According to the account provided by the victims’ grandson, identified as R, Dwi stated that the alleged brutal killing occurred around 01.00 local time on Sunday. Initially, R was in the house with his friend, identified as H.

“Whilst in the house with H, R excused himself to retrieve a mobile phone charger from the house of his associate, identified as RZ,” Dwi explained.

Shortly after, R and RZ returned home. However, they discovered H in the outdoor bathroom in suspicious circumstances, apparently washing bloodstains from his clothing.

“Upon realising his actions had been witnessed, H attempted to chase R and RZ. However, both managed to escape from H’s pursuit,” Dwi clarified.

Not long after, R returned to the house and found his grandparents lying dead in pools of blood. Subsequently, R reported the incident to the District Police and Sumbawa Police Resort.

“Upon receiving the report, we immediately proceeded to the scene, evacuated both victims to Sumbawa General Hospital, and conducted crime scene investigation,” Dwi stated.

When evacuated, both victims were pronounced dead on arrival with their bodies bearing severe laceration wounds throughout. They are suspected to have fallen victim to aggravated assault.

“Currently, R and RZ have been taken into custody by Sumbawa Police Resort and are being treated as witnesses. Meanwhile, H remains at large,” Dwi concluded.
