Elang Block mining investment estimated at Rp8 trillion
The development plan for the Elang Block copper and gold mine by PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) in Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, is estimated to require an initial investment of approximately Rp6 trillion to Rp8 trillion.
The Regent of Sumbawa, Syarafuddin Jarot, received information from PT AMNT stating that the investment covers the construction of production facilities and mining support facilities, requiring more than 60 hectares of land.
“The initial investment is around Rp6 trillion to Rp8 trillion, with a land requirement of more than 60 hectares,” Jarot said during a public consultation for the feasibility study and Environmental Impact Assessment (Amdal) of the Elang Block mining activities in Sumbawa on Tuesday.
He noted that the construction of production facilities is targeted to enter the construction phase starting in mid-2027, once all study stages and mining development requirements have been completed.
Jarot stated that while the investment has the potential to boost economic activity in Sumbawa, the benefits must be felt by the local community and must continue to prioritise environmental sustainability.
“We welcome incoming investment, on the condition that industry does not enter only to displace the local people. We must ensure the people do not suffer from poverty,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Vice President of AMMAN, Syamsul Kepli, stated that the public consultation is a stage in the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Amdal) to gather suggestions, opinions, responses, and information from the community and stakeholders.
“Community knowledge regarding environmental, socio-cultural, and regional characteristics serves as vital input to enrich the Amdal study,” he said.
