Eko Budihardjo replaces Muladi

SEMARANG: Engineering expert Eko Budihardjo is to become the new rector of state-run Diponegoro University, replacing Muladi who is now the minister of justice, Antara reported.

Muladi said here Saturday that a Ministry of Education decree on his replacement had been issued but he would still lead the graduation ceremony on May 9. He will hand over the post to Eko on May 12.

The faculty's senate had reelected Muladi for the 1994/1998 term before he received his ministerial appointment in mid-March. Another election was held on March 21 and Eko beat several competitors for the post.

"The new rector has a heavy burden because he will have to contend with student restlessness while having to build cooperation with the Central Java provincial administration," Muladi said. (swe)
