Eimer leads Germany to glory
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): A brilliant penalty corner set-piece 32 seconds from time gave Germany a 3-2 win over South Korea in the final of the 11th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup here on Sunday.
Christop Eimer secured the trophy for the Germans for only the second time when he put the final touch to a three-match set- piece for the winner.
It was South Korea's third defeat in as many years as it lost the last two finals to Pakistan.
The Koreans had taken the lead in the ninth minute through Jung Seong-tae. The forward put the finishing touches to a brilliant cross from Seo Jong-ho who had seconds earlier taken on the entire German defence down the right flank.
The speedier South Koreans, who play a similar game to the Germans, found all the right gears as the Europeans appeared to be suffering from the surprisingly high evening humidity.
