Eighty graves to be relocated

JAKARTA (JP): In this rapidly-developing city of about 10 million people, even the dead have to make way for development.

The construction of a drinking water facility in the Karet Bivak public cemetery in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, will require the removal of the remains in 80 graves.

The remains will be removed to the Srengseng cemetery in South Jakarta from July 3 through 10, chief of the city cemetery agency Syafril Zainuddin said on Wednesday.

Syafril asked relatives of the deceased to contact the agency between June 29 and 30 for coordination. They are required to present the burial documents of their kin.

"The relatives will not be charged a single rupiah for the scheme," he assured. (32)
