Eighteen Market Stalls in Labuan Pandeglang Destroyed by Fire, Suspected Electrical Short Circuit
A fire at Labuan Market in Labuan District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten, reportedly destroyed 18 stalls. No casualties were reported in the incident.
“A fire broke out at stalls located in Pasar Baru Labuan, affecting approximately 18 stalls,” said Endan Permana, Head of the Fire Service Division at Pandeglang’s Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD-PK), on Sunday (22/2/2026).
Endan said the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at around 5.40pm local time, shortly before the breaking of the Ramadan fast. He stated the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
“The incident is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit, which then caused the flames to spread to the market stall buildings,” he said.
Endan said that before the fire intensified, residents had noticed thick black smoke rising above the stalls. According to him, the fire spread rapidly and immediately engulfed the traders’ premises, which were constructed from wood.
Endan added that residents had attempted to extinguish the blaze using whatever means available, but their efforts were unsuccessful as the fire proved difficult to control. He said the fire service team was immediately deployed to the scene to carry out suppression efforts.
“The team was immediately deployed to the scene to carry out fire suppression and cooling operations,” he said.
Endan confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. He estimated the total losses at approximately Rp 300 million.
“There were no casualties in the incident. Total material losses are estimated at approximately Rp 300 million,” he said.
