Eight killed in paint factory blast
THAILAND: A powerful explosion ripped through a paint factory southeast of Bangkok on Wednesday, killing eight workers and injuring 21 others, police said.
The blast and a subsequent fire heavily damaged the G.S. Thailand Factory in Chon Buri, 60 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, where 45 people were working at the time, according to Lt. Col. Nakarin Nooroon at the Chon Buri police station.
Police said the explosion happened at 3:30 p.m. (local time) when volatile chemicals, including methyl alcohol, ignited in a mixing tank.
A fire quickly spread through the two buildings of the factory. --DPA
