Eight Injured in Kemayoran Fire; Government Focuses on Emergency Aid and Relocation

Eight residents sustained injuries following a fire in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. The blaze struck a densely populated residential area in the Kebon Kosong sub-district on Monday (1/6) night.

The Acting Head of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Marulitua Sijabat, stated that all victims have received medical treatment at a hospital and their conditions are being closely monitored. “There are eight victims with minor injuries, consisting of two men and six women. Currently, all have been treated by Hermina Hospital,” Marulitua said on Tuesday (2/6).

He added that the primary focus of the Jakarta Provincial Government is to ensure that the basic needs of the victims are met, both at the evacuation sites and in healthcare facilities. In addition to providing emergency tents, the government is distributing food aid, clean water, family supplies, and bedding for the survivors.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest an electrical short circuit in one of the houses may have triggered the blaze, which quickly spread through the crowded neighbourhood. The BPBD, alongside relevant agencies, is currently conducting an impact assessment to ensure all affected residents receive necessary assistance during the emergency response period.

According to Jakarta BPBD records, the fire has impacted approximately 620 people in the Kebon Kosng area. In response to the scale of the disaster, Safrizal ZA, Director General of Regional Administrative Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, emphasised that officials are actively documenting the victims and noted that the government is open to discussing relocation options for those displaced by the fire.
