Eight Illegal Parking Attendants Detained in Tanah Abang Over Rp 60,000 Parking Charges
The activities of illegal parking attendants overcharging motorists in the Tanah Abang area of Central Jakarta have gone viral on social media, with perpetrators allegedly charging fees of up to Rp 100,000.
In a video circulating online, seen on Tuesday (17/2/2026), a member of the public was recorded filming the illegal parking attendants in action. The person recording stated that the parking fees being imposed by the attendants reached Rp 60,000.
When asked for confirmation, Tanah Abang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Dhimas Prasetyo said his office had responded to public complaints. The illegal parking attendants suspected of overcharging in Tanah Abang were detained on Monday (16/2).
“The police station has taken law enforcement action regarding the viral reports to prevent the situation from escalating further, and to maintain a conducive environment by bringing in the parking attendants identified as engaging in illegal levies,” Dhimas said.
Investigations revealed that the perpetrators had been charging parking fees in Tanah Abang ranging from Rp 60,000 to Rp 100,000. “Yes, [they charged] parking fees of Rp 60,000 to Rp 100,000,” Dhimas confirmed.
A total of eight individuals were detained by officers. The suspects are currently undergoing questioning at Tanah Abang Police Station.
“They were not arrested per se — they were brought to the police station for questioning. There is one person from the viral video and seven others identified as engaging in the same conduct,” he said.
“They are being questioned and investigated further to determine whether their actions meet the elements required for further law enforcement proceedings, or whether corrective guidance will suffice,” he added.
