Eight Days to Eid: 45,000 Passengers Depart Jakarta
As the nation approaches Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operations 1 Jakarta officially opened its 2026 Eid Transport Post on 13 March, running through 1 April. The post aims to ensure smooth railway operations, enhance safety, and provide optimal service to the public during the homecoming and return periods.
On the post’s opening day on Friday (13 March), 45,382 passengers departed from KAI’s Regional Operations 1 area, whilst 22,092 passengers arrived at various stations within the same region. This represents an increase compared to the previous two days, with 29,824 passengers departing on 11 March and 40,178 on 12 March 2026.
Based on Friday’s departure data, Pasar Senen Station recorded the highest passenger volume at 18,657 travellers, followed by Gambir Station with 14,767 passengers, Bekasi 4,914, Cikarang 2,653, Jatinegara 2,612, Cikampek 968, and Karawang 811 passengers. For arrivals on the same day, Pasar Senen recorded 7,594 passengers, Gambir 5,586, Bekasi 4,043, Jatinegara 2,901, Cikarang 926, Cikampek 575, and Karawang 467 passengers.
Cumulatively from 11 to 13 March 2026, 115,384 passengers departed from the Jakarta regional operations area, whilst 56,028 arrived.
Franoto Wibowo, KAI Regional Operations 1 Jakarta’s public relations manager, stated that the passenger volume increase at the beginning of the Eid transport period reflects public confidence in rail transport as a homecoming mode of travel. “KAI Regional Operations 1 Jakarta has made various preparations spanning operational aspects, railway safety, and enhanced customer service to ensure safe, comfortable, and punctual journeys during the Eid transport period,” he said.
To support security and order during the Eid transport season, KAI Regional Operations 1 deployed 721 security personnel comprising 150 railway police, 456 security officers, and 115 support personnel from the military and national police stationed at stations and strategic points across the operational area.
During the 2026 Eid transport period, KAI is providing 1,076,196 seats for long-distance rail journeys from Gambir and Pasar Senen stations. To date, 681,067 tickets have been sold or booked, with 387,861 seats remaining available, resulting in approximately 63 per cent occupancy.
The highest ticket sales period occurred from 11–20 March 2026 during the early homecoming phase, with 451,219 tickets sold. Popular travel dates include 18 March with 49,105 tickets, 19 March with 48,465, 16 March with 47,703, and 17 March with 47,556 tickets.
To support the government’s economic stimulus programme, KAI is offering fare discounts of up to 30 per cent for commercial economy-class trains from 14–29 March 2026. Nationally, approximately 1.2 million seats are available, whilst 329,000 seats are available specifically in the Jakarta regional operations area, with approximately 67,000 seats still available.
During the Eid transport period, KAI Regional Operations 1 is operating 68 regular long-distance train services daily, plus 12 additional services from Gambir Station, seven additional services from Pasar Senen Station, and four free motor train journeys.
Popular trains from Gambir Station include Pandalungan, Argo Semeru, Gunungjati, Cakrabuana, Pangandaran, and Batavia. From Pasar Senen Station, frequently requested trains include Bengawan, Airlangga, Serayu, Kertajaya, Jayakarta, and Progo.
KAI urged travellers during the Eid transport period to plan journeys carefully and book tickets through the Access by KAI application, the official KAI website, or other official sales channels.
