The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has revoked the business licences of several People’s Credit Banks (BPR) throughout the current year up to June 2026. It is important to note that these closures only concern BPRs and not commercial banks.

The most recent case is the revocation of the business licence of PT BPR Ceper Permata Artha, located in Klaten, Central Java. Based on the Decree of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Number KEP-111/D.03/2026 dated 25 June 2026, the bank was officially closed.

Prior to the licence revocation, BPR Ceper Permata Artha had been placed under ‘Bank in Recovery’ status due to capital problems. However, the recovery efforts were unsuccessful, leading to its status being escalated to ‘Bank in Resolution’ before its final closure by the OJK.

Generally, the main cause of BPR closures is the bank’s health level, particularly regarding capital. When a BPR fails to implement the recovery measures requested by the OJK, the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) takes over to execute the resolution process, including liquidation and ensuring the payment of eligible customer deposit claims.

As of 26 June 2026, a total of eight BPRs have had their business licences revoked by the OJK. While some reports may cite a figure of seven, compiled data indicates that PT BPR Sungai Rumbai was also closed in April.

Following the licence revocation, the LPS will immediately process deposit data verification and commence the payment of deposit insurance claims to customers in accordance with applicable regulations.
