Eight Airports Closed Until Midnight Due to Anak Krakatau Eruption
Perum Lembaga Penyelenggara Pelayanan Navigasi Penerbangan Indonesia (LPPNPI), or AirNav Indonesia, has announced that the temporary closure of flight operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) has been extended until midnight on Sunday, 6 September 2026.
The temporary closure also applies to several other airports affected by volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
EVP of Corporate Secretary AirNav Indonesia Hermana Soegijantoro said that the temporary closure status for flight operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, and other airports has been extended with an estimated end time of 23:59 WIB.
“The closure of Soekarno-Hatta Airport and other airports due to the impact of volcanic ash dispersion from Mount Anak Krakatau is based on NOTAM A3355/26 (NOTAMR A3351/26). The closure is effective from 18:00 WIB on 6 September 2026,” he said on Sunday, 6 September 2026.
He explained that the updated NOTAM status of ‘closed’ due to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau applies to Soetta Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (WIHH), Husein Sastranegara (WICC), Pondok Cabe (WIHP), Budiarto (WIRR), Radin Inten II (WILL), Pagar Alam (WIPY), and Taufik Kiemas (WILP).
For Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, the closure was updated through NOTAM A3354/26 (NOTAMR A3349/26), effective from 17:58 WIB until an estimated 23:59 WIB.
Furthermore, Husein Sastranegara Airport was updated through NOTAM C1098/26 (NOTAMR C1093/26), effective from 18:28 WIB until an estimated 23:59 WIB. Budiarto Airport was updated through NOTAM C1097/26 (NOTAMR C1094/26), effective from 18:26 WIB until an estimated 23:59 WIB.
Pagar Alam Airport was updated through NOTAM C1099/26 (NOTAMR C1088/26), effective from 18:55 WIB until an estimated 23:59 WIB. Meanwhile, Taufik Kiemas Airport was updated through NOTAM C1096/26 (NOTAMR C1091/26), effective from 18:03 WIB until an estimated 23:59 WIB.
“The closure of the affected airports is carried out in order to support flight safety,” he said.
AirNav Indonesia continues to monitor the development of airspace conditions and the dispersion of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. Updates to aeronautical information are carried out according to the development of conditions to support flight safety.
“AirNav Indonesia also continues to coordinate with aviation stakeholders to ensure that information regarding airspace conditions and flight navigation services is conveyed in a timely manner,” he said.
