REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA – As many as 1,374 locations for Eid al-Fitr prayers have been prepared in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) to accommodate worshippers for the Eid prayer observance of 1447 Hijriah, which will be held on Friday (20/3/2026). The Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah has set Eid al-Fitr on Friday, 20 March 2026, based on the Global Single Hijriah Calendar (KHGT). With this determination, Eid prayers within the Muhammadiyah community are confirmed to take place simultaneously tomorrow.

As a follow-up to this decision, the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PWM) of DIY has prepared thousands of points for Eid al-Fitr prayer locations or Eid prayers spread across the five districts/cities in DIY. “PWM DIY, together with the Muhammadiyah District Leadership (PDM), Muhammadiyah Branch Leadership (PCM), and Muhammadiyah Sub-branch Leadership (PRM), has prepared 1,374 locations spread throughout all corners of the districts and cities in the DIY region,” said the Secretary of PWM DIY, Arif Jamali, on Thursday (19/3/2026).

Arif explained that the thousands of points are the result of coordination between PWM DIY and all its subordinate organisational structures. The thousands of locations are evenly distributed throughout DIY, with details as follows: Gunungkidul Regency with 378 locations, Sleman Regency with 303 locations, Bantul Regency with 276 locations, Yogyakarta City with 236 locations, and Kulonprogo Regency with 181 locations.

The high number of locations is an effort by Muhammadiyah DIY to ensure that worshippers can perform Eid prayers comfortably without excessive crowding at one point. Several areas even have high concentrations, such as Semin and Karangmojo in Gunungkidul with 67 locations each, Ngaglik in Sleman with 53 locations, and Umbulharjo in Yogyakarta City with 62 locations.

In Yogyakarta City, several iconic points are once again being used as Eid prayer locations, including Kagungan Ndalem Alun-alun Kidul, Sewandanan Field Pakualaman, Karang Kotagede Field, Mancasan Field, the grounds of Pendopo Agung Taman Siswa, and Ngabean Parking Field.

In addition to the readiness of the number of locations, Muhammadiyah DIY also emphasises the importance of environmentally friendly worship practices. The zero-waste commitment is once again promoted and is expected to strengthen worshippers’ awareness in maintaining cleanliness and reducing the use of plastic waste during the Eid prayer observance.

“Zero-waste Eid as a form of environmental preaching (ecotheology) so that worship is more focused, meaningful, and approved by Allah SWT,” he stated.
