Palembang, VIVA – The government is currently expanding the scope of security during this year’s Eid period. Not only focused on mudik routes and shopping centres, security is also being tightened at various tourist destinations to pilgrimage sites that are predicted to experience a surge in visitors. This step is taken in response to the increasing mobility of the public during the Idulfitri holiday. The mudik tradition followed by recreational and family pilgrimage activities has made crowd points more dispersed than in previous years. As done by the South Sumatra Regional Police, who are expanding the scope of security through Operation Ketupat Musi 2026. Not only focusing on mudik routes, security now targets tourist locations, pilgrimage sites, water areas, to settlements left by mudik travellers. This step is taken to ensure that all post-Idul Fitri community activities run safely and orderly. Several areas such as Musi Rawas, Ogan Ilir, Pagar Alam, to Palembang are the focus of security by police ranks. In Musi Rawas, officers are closely escorting two popular tourist destinations, namely Lake Aur and Samani Hill, which are crowded with visitors. Officers are also actively reminding parents to increase supervision of children, especially in areas close to water. Meanwhile, in Ogan Ilir, security is centred at the Talang Peramuan Cemetery, which is crowded with pilgrims. Police are regulating vehicle flow and parking to prevent traffic congestion around the location. Supervision is also carried out in the water transportation sector, including speedboat bases. Officers are warning operators to comply with passenger capacity limits and avoid risky manoeuvres for the safety of service users. In the Pagar Alam area, officers are securing the Mount Dempo tourist area which is experiencing an increase in the number of tourists. In addition, several main traffic points are also guarded to anticipate a surge in mobility. Different from tourist areas, patrols in Palembang are focused on housing areas left empty during mudik. Police conduct routine sweeps to prevent criminal acts such as burglary of empty houses. The South Sumatra Police Chief, Sandi Nugroho, emphasised that post-Eid security is not limited to mudik flows alone. All community activities, including tourism and pilgrimage, are the main concern of the apparatus.
