Eid Robes from Tasik Cideng Market Sold as Far as the Philippines and Nigeria
Jakarta — Eid robes from Tasik Market on Jalan Cideng Timur, Gambir District, Central Jakarta are sold internationally, reaching as far as the Philippines and Nigeria.
One merchant, Zulhaimah (42), sells robes at the market using a wholesale system known as kodian. Buyers arrive from various regions across Java, Sumatra, and Eastern Indonesia.
“If buying individual pieces, we set limits—the minimum is five robes. Rarely do we allow someone to buy just one garment. Usually, those who come here buy robes to resell,” said Zulhaimah during an interview at Tasik Market on Monday (9 March 2026).
Traders from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Nigeria purchase robes to sell in their respective countries.
“We also have buyers from abroad. There are people from Africa—Nigerians who buy from here. Then there are traders from Malaysia and the Philippines who also source from us,” she continued.
Many buyers seek robes made from organza and marbella fabrics. A single robe sells for 200,000 rupiah.
“These fabrics are lightweight, cool, and look premium. Usually, I sell one batch of 20 pieces for 4 million rupiah,” she said.
Zulhaimah noted that Eid robe sales this year have been quite strong. On a single day, over 200 robes are sold from her shop.
During ordinary days, robe sales reach a maximum of only 100 pieces.
“Right now, daily revenue can reach tens of millions,” she said.
Tasik Market on Jalan Cideng is always busy approaching Eid al-Fitr.
The market is regarded as an alternative for shopping for Eid clothing, apart from the Tanah Abang area.
What makes Tasik Market distinctive is that it is filled with hundreds of merchants who use vehicles to display their goods.
On Monday, the vehicles used by merchants varied in size, from small to large.
