Eid Return Traffic on Trans-Sumatra Toll Road Surges 122.88 Percent
JAKARTA - Traffic surges from the Eid al-Fitr 2026 return flow are beginning to be felt on the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS). Vehicle volumes have been recorded to increase dramatically, even exceeding double the normal volume on some sections. PT Hutama Karya (Persero) noted an increase in vehicle traffic on the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road during the period of 22 March 2026. Cumulatively, the total daily traffic on the operational toll sections reached 247,862 vehicles, or a surge of up to 122.88 percent compared to normal traffic. “Cumulatively, the total daily traffic on the operational toll sections was recorded at 247,862 vehicles, an increase of 122.88 percent compared to normal traffic,” stated Hutama Karya’s management on Monday (23/3/2026). The highest surges occurred on several strategic sections. This was followed by the Kuala Tanjung – Tebing Tinggi – Parapat Toll Road, which increased by 197.88 percent, and the Pekanbaru – XIII Koto Kampar Toll Road, which surged by 178.89 percent. Significant increases were also seen on the Padang – Sicincin Toll Road at 164.91 percent, the Indrapura – Kisaran Toll Road at 148.32 percent, and the Binjai – Langsa Toll Road at 148.64 percent. Meanwhile, the Palembang – Indralaya – Prabumulih Toll Road recorded an increase of 110.26 percent, and the Bengkulu – Taba Penanjung Toll Road rose by 118.60 percent. Amid this surge, one section experienced a slight decline, namely the Betung – Tempino – Jambi Toll Road by 3.67 percent compared to normal traffic. In addition to operational sections, increases were also observed on toll sections functionalised during the return flow. The Sigli – Banda Aceh Section 1 Toll Road recorded 6,219 vehicles, while the Palembang – Betung Toll Road reached 5,928 vehicles. For this reason, the company urges road users to plan their journeys well, avoid peak times, and ensure that vehicles and drivers are in prime condition.
