Eid Homecoming Traffic Increases; Garut Police Implement One-Way System on Limbangan-Malangbong Route
EID homecoming traffic in 2026 shows a significant increase, with notably high vehicle volume in Garut Regency, West Java. The traffic unit of Garut Police has implemented a one-way system on the Limbangan to Malangbong route.
The Head of Traffic at Garut Police, Senior Commissioner Luky Martono, stated that the 1447 Hijri Eid homecoming traffic has experienced considerable growth, and the police have taken discretionary measures to temporarily redirect vehicle flow from Bandung towards Tasikmalaya. However, the increase in vehicles travelling from West Java to Central Java via the Limbangan to Malangbong route has been continuous.
“We implemented this traffic management because vehicle flow from Bandung to Tasikmalaya has increased, so we apply situational one-way measures to expedite vehicle movement,” he said on Tuesday (17 March 2026).
According to him, based on Garut Police data, the one-way traffic management has been applied six times on the Limbangan and Malangbong routes starting from 08:25 WIB until 08:45 WIB with a holding point at Limbangan Police Station, continuing on the Lewo Route at 08:50 to 09:00 WIB with a holding point at Bandrex Service Station.
“At 09:25 WIB, officers resumed the one-way system on the Lewo Route with a holding point at Kaum Lewo, with continuous flow from the west at 10:25 WIB, the Limbangan Route was again directed one-way to a holding point at Limbangan Police Station. However, in the afternoon, congestion occurred on the Malangbong Route, and at 10:45 WIB, officers implemented one-way measures and traffic management on the Lewo Route from 10:55 to 11:05 WIB with a holding point at Bandrex Service Station,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Police Chief of Tasikmalaya City, Senior Commissioner Andi Purwanto, stated that homecoming traffic from West Java to Central Java and vice versa through upper Gentong today was indeed busy yet flowing smoothly, with no increase in vehicles from the national arterial route. However, homecoming traffic on the main West Java to Central Java route is expected to peak on H-3 and H-2 due to the second wave of homecoming traffic.
“We urge travellers not to use mobile phones whilst driving and to use integrated rest posts as rest facilities. If they feel drowsy, they can rest there. These posts are equipped with children’s play areas, places of worship, and other amenities,” he said.
