Eid Holiday: Police Monitor Residents' Neighbourhoods in Cengkareng
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are carrying out surveillance in residents’ neighbourhoods that are deserted due to their inhabitants leaving for the Eid homecoming in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, during the Eid holiday period. Cengkareng Police Chief Kompol Andika Muslim stated that the surveillance is a preventive measure to anticipate criminal acts, particularly burglaries of empty houses that frequently increase during the Eid homecoming season. “By patrolling residential areas, officers ensure that residents’ homes left empty for the homecoming are in a safe condition,” Andika said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday. During the patrol, he added, officers also urged residents staying in Jakarta to be mutually caring and to increase vigilance towards their surroundings. “Synergy between security apparatus and the community is key to creating a safe and conducive environment, especially during the Idul Fitri holiday,” Andika stated. Furthermore, he explained that the surveillance is also conducted together with community elements. One of them is by the Community Guidance Non-Commissioned Officer for Cengkareng Timur Sub-District, Bripka Muhaeri, along with RW 08 Chairman M Gultom, and RT 01 Chairman Agus in the Fajar Baru Selatan Street area, Cengkareng Timur, West Jakarta. “Through this activity, it is hoped that residents who are away for the homecoming can feel more at ease because their left-behind homes remain under supervision,” Andika revealed.
