Eid Holiday: Fuel and LPG Distribution Anticipated amid Traffic Congestion and Adverse Weather
Pertamina has ensured that fuel and LPG distribution will run safely and smoothly across the nation during the Eid holiday period, covering major exodus routes, tourist destinations, and remote regions.
“We have prepared thorough strategies and extra services to ensure energy supply remains safe and continuous,” said Fanda Chrismianto, Executive General Manager of Pertamina Patra Niaga Central Java Regional, on Thursday (12 March).
Storage tank capacity has been optimised to ensure regular deliveries. Consequently, the public need not worry about fuel and LPG availability during the Eid holiday season.
A total of 309 petrol stations along high-traffic routes will operate 24 hours. Fifty-nine mobile storage units have been stationed as emergency fuel supply points. Twenty-two Pertamina Delivery Service points, or motorised fuel delivery stations, have been positioned at congested routes and tourist sites. Twenty-one modular units across 13 locations and 11 kiosks have been deployed along high-traffic and tourist routes where petrol stations are unavailable.
“We are also operating 1,033 emergency LPG agents,” he added. These LPG agents will operate around-the-clock in areas experiencing high demand during the Eid holiday.
Priyo Djatmiko, Regional Manager of Supply & Distribution for Pertamina Patra Niaga Central Java, revealed that the company has prioritised early morning delivery schedules for fuel tankers, particularly targeting petrol stations on routes to tourist destinations. “For example, the Rewulu field terminal, which normally opens at 4 a.m., now opens at 2 a.m., enabling earlier deliveries to those areas,” he explained.
For routes affected by natural disasters such as flooding, alternative routes have been prepared to minimise impact on fuel and LPG distribution.
For distribution to remote areas, such as Karimunjawa, Pertamina employs multi-modal transport. “Fuel tankers from our terminal collect fuel, which is then loaded onto small tanker vessels called SPUBs. These vessels depart from Semarang bound for Karimunjawa,” he said.
Upon arrival in Karimunjawa, the fuel is transferred from the vessel to fuel tankers and dispatched to petrol stations.
This demonstrates that the company has developed tight delivery plans, including weather forecasts from Indonesia’s meteorological agency (BMKG) to prevent disruptions. To ensure smooth distribution, contingency plans include collaboration with the Indonesian Navy, utilising naval vessels to assist fuel delivery should severe maritime weather occur.
The Director of the Centre for Public Policy and Development Studies (Puskeppi), Sofyano Zakaria, appreciated Pertamina’s measures to address energy supply disruptions in disaster-affected regions.
Fuel distribution in several disaster-affected areas across three Sumatran provinces has begun showing signs of improvement.
