Eid Holiday and Mass Exodus Drive Surge in Online Shopping in Indonesia
Jakarta — The momentum of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah is expected to drive a surge in consumer shopping activity, particularly through e-commerce platforms. Lazada Indonesia has noted increasing consumer interest in various products supporting the mass exodus (mudik) travel and household needs during Eid.
A national survey by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transportation estimates approximately 143.9 million people, or more than 50 percent of Indonesia’s population, will undertake mudik travel during Eid 2026. This figure makes the period one of the largest population mobility events annually.
Erika Agustine, Commercial Director of Lazada Indonesia, stated that demand for various product categories typically increases ahead of Eid al-Fitr, ranging from automotive products, household appliances, to electronic devices.
According to her, this surge in demand is driven by two primary activities during the Eid period: mudik travel and Eid celebrations with family at home.
The Centre of Reform on Economics (CORE) research institute estimates that money circulation during Ramadan and Eid 2026 could reach approximately 190 trillion rupiah, an increase from approximately 160 trillion rupiah in the previous year.
“Consumers seek products that support smooth travel whilst meeting household needs when gathering with family. E-commerce becomes the choice because consumers can access various authentic and quality products from trusted brands,” Erika said in a statement on Friday, 13 March 2026.
She added that Lazada is capitalising on this momentum by presenting various promotional offers to consumers ahead of Eid.
