Tens of thousands of vehicles have been recorded leaving Jakarta via the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed (MBZ) expressway during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah exodus. PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek (JCC) recorded 40,523 vehicles passing through the expressway.

“There was a surge in vehicle volume of 74.36 per cent compared to normal conditions of 23,241 vehicles on the sixth day before Eid al-Fitr in 2026,” said Hendri Taufik, Chief Executive of JCC, in Bekasi, as reported by Antara news agency on Monday, 16 March 2026.

This figure was recorded on Sunday, 15 March. In the opposite direction, vehicles heading towards Jakarta via the MBZ expressway numbered 32,565. This represented a 2.19 per cent decrease compared to normal daily traffic of 33,293 vehicles.

From ten days before to six days before Eid al-Fitr 2026, JCC recorded 176,815 vehicles departing Jakarta via the MBZ expressway. This represented a 36.09 per cent increase compared to normal traffic conditions of 129,923 vehicles.

This trend reflects the growing movement of people travelling out of Jakarta in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr.

Hendri appealed to road users planning to travel via the MBZ expressway to manage their departure times carefully. This is to avoid potential traffic congestion.

“We urge road users to arrange their travel times wisely and prepare their journeys properly to prevent traffic congestion at certain times, so that travel can proceed more smoothly and comfortably,” Hendri said.

Road users are advised to ensure that drivers and vehicles are in good condition, maintain adequate electricity and fuel, and anticipate potential weather changes, particularly rain, which can affect visibility and road surface conditions.

Motorists can also access current information and request toll expressway traffic services through the Jasa Marga Group’s 24-hour call centre at 133, via Twitter @PTJASAMARGA, and through the Travoy 4.5 application for iOS and Android users.
