Eid Clothing Shoppers Find Satisfaction in Direct Shopping at Tanah Abang
Jakarta — Nearly a week before Eid, Pusat Grosir Metro Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta has returned to being crowded with shoppers hunting for new clothing.
Despite the growing popularity of online shopping, many people still prefer to come directly to one of the largest shopping centres in the city.
Several shoppers encountered by Kompas.com at Pusat Grosir Metro Tanah Abang on Tuesday (10 March 2026) shared their reasons for choosing to shop in person for their Eid clothing needs.
“We couldn’t find our size on e-commerce sites, so we thought it would be better to come directly and the prices at Tanah Abang might be cheaper,” said Linda when interviewed by Kompas.com at Pusat Grosir Metro Tanah Abang on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Despite purchasing clothing for several family members, Linda said she did not allocate an overly large budget.
“We didn’t set aside a huge budget. We ended up spending around 1 million rupiahs for clothing for four family members,” she said.
“That’s right, we came here specifically to buy Eid clothing because sometimes when shopping on e-commerce, the goods don’t match expectations when they arrive,” added Shanti.
According to her, the advantage of shopping directly at Tanah Abang is that buyers can see the quality of goods firsthand before deciding to purchase.
“Here, we can see and touch the goods directly,” she said.
