Eid Bonus for Ojol Drivers Shapes Company Policy Based on Productivity

Jakarta – Transport analyst Azas Tigor Nainggolan believes that the Eid Bonus (BHR) provided by digital platform companies to their Ojol driver partners is an internal company policy within the partnership framework that has long been applied. He explains that the BHR scheme cannot be equated with normative obligations such as the Eid allowance in formal employment. In the context of the partnership, BHR is positioned as a form of performance-based appreciation as well as moral and financial support ahead of Eid al-Fitr. “This Eid Bonus is discretionary in nature or a policy from the app operator, whether they want to give it or not. If the company provides it, it is a form of appreciation so that the partners and their families can celebrate Eid with additional material support from the company,” Azas said in Jakarta on Wednesday 4 March 2026. The statement was made in response to commitments from two digital platform companies, Grab and GoTo, who expressed support for the distribution of BHR in 2026 with plans to increase the budget up to twice that of the previous year. According to Azas, the mechanism for distributing the BHR should ideally uphold fairness by considering the activity level and productivity of the partners. He said the company needs to set criteria so that the policy remains financially sustainable. “App companies cannot be forced to provide to everyone without criteria, as that would create financial problems for them. The distribution is indeed based on the performance or productivity of each partner,” he said. He added that differences in partner activity levels, for example between drivers who operate only 1–2 hours per day and those who are active full-time, are among the reasonable considerations in determining the level of appreciation awarded.
